Whenever I can overcome the return of the 3012 error, this is how I would like to proceed with Blue Pearl.
More or less, there was confusion between my brother and I when creating the social pearl for us to hang out in. He made one, I made one, and they all mostly held the same people. He kept developing his thinking we'd go there, and I did the same. Miscommunication.
Furthermore, it came to my attention that one of the people in the (current) Blue Pearl was griefing people for talking about RP stuff. I pretty much have zero tolerance towards that in a shell that I'm running, and same goes for my brother (who plays as Calidious Blanstyr).
It was also brought to my attention that some people would just prefer to socialize with other roleplayers and not be a part of a general social and progression oriented shell.
So, without stirring up drama, here is the plan that I'm putting in motion to help meet everyone's needs.
There will be three pearls:
1. TheReturners: (The pearl that my brother made, general friendly linkshell for progression oriented things. No griefing of RPers is to be tolerated. If griefing does happen, /tell myself or Calidous Blanstyr, who will deal with it. Calidous has told me that he isn't going to tolerate people who poke fun at RPers) 2. Blue Pearl: Blue Pearl is strictly going to become an OOC linkshell for roleplayers, and only roleplayers. Doesn't necessarily need to be only roleplayers in Tales of Hydaelyn, but it will be only roleplayers. This means friends of roleplayers who aren't roleplayers themselves cannot get in this one, because there is a chance we could accidentally net someone who is a griefer or something. 3. Tales of Hydaelyn: The in-character roleplayer channel. IC stuff only here.
To get to this point, I'm going to take the following steps:
1. The current Blue Pearl will be renamed to "Blue Pearl Old" and a new "Blue Pearl New" will be made. 2. Blue Pearl Old will be disbanded this Sunday at no specific time. Whenever I get around to it. 3. Leading up to Sunday, Kj and I will do our best to send invites for all the shells to people and their alts. We will do this to the best of our ability, but we cannot monitor when everyone is coming online and offline. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to get a hold of us to get you a new invite to the new Blue Pearl. We will be inviting you to both, Blue Pearl and TheReturners. If you do not want to be in TheReturners, please do not simply let the linkshell invite countdown and time out and say nothing. We cannot know if you are idle at the time we send the invites. So, for example, if you do not want to be a member of TheReturners, please send along a /tell to us explicitly saying so. That or, post your preferences in this topic.
By resetting Bue Pearl, we'll clear out all the non-RP folks without looking like jerks and systematically kicking everyone who isn't a RPer. The pearl will get a fresh start, and those that want just a general OOC shell can have it, and those that want a general OOC RPer shell will have that as well.
Sounds overall ok to me, though I'm a lil iffy at the "no friends of RPers" in Blue Pearl. If someone is a friend of a roleplayer, they should already be no bringer of RP-griefing, so I don't think there's this risk by inviting a friend-of-RPer in Blue Pearl who hasn't personally enlisted to roleplay him/herself (Xer comes to mind). I'd rather not accidentally cause drama by forcing friends to stay separated, and who knows, it may get them interested in RP at a later time perhaps? I do fully agree to carefully monitor on non-RPers who may enter Blue Pearl and make sure no more discrimination is seen, but I feel it should be analyzed from case to case. To flat-out keep out any non-RPer may look discriminative itself on our part, and we certainly are not.
To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.
"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." – Doug Walker
I guess I'm not too worried about there being a person here and there that comes into Blue Pearl. But by and large I really would prefer to keep Blue Pearl for OOC RPers. A couple not-specific RPers may make sense under special circumstances, but Returners already serves a good role as a place to go for general OOC players.
Just Blue Pearl for me… when I get a chance to log in.
Xer/Kat/Erm/whatever-you-wanna-call-him did express a preference for BP over TR. Smaller group, more people he knows in BP. And while not exactly an RPer, he can and occasionally does go IC for brief periods of time.
The other driver… dunno what he'll want to do once he gets a chance to play (he managed to get on the server, just hasn't had a chance to do much). He might find his own LS, he might want to stay with Xer and me. At the very least, I know he won't grief.
"How hard did you hit him?" "Quite hard, actually. For some reason he irritated me." They stared back to where the Grolim lay. "You're getting to be more like Belgarath every day," Silk told him. "You do more damage out of simple irritation than most men can do in a towering rage."
